Parents Support Group on 18th October 2014
We welcome Dr. Alefiya Nomanbhoy once again as our guest speaker for the event. She continued her sharing about Functional Behavioural Analysis (FBA) and taught parents on identifying a specific functional behaviour that they want their children to either learn or reduce. She also shared tips and methods on managing the behaviours more effectively.
It was a hands-on sessions for us staff and parents who attended the session as we discussed and shared about different types of situations/scenarios and how to manage them.
Graduation Party/Christmas Party 2014 on 26th November 2014
This event was sponsored by Hatten Hotel Melaka and we had about 165 people (including parents, students, trainees, siblings, regular donors and staff) who attended it. There were performances by students and trainees from EIP, SAP and YAP as well as certificate presentation to 4 graduating students.
A gift plaque which was uniquely hand drawn by one of our trainees was also presented to the hotel as a token of appreciation.
It was a fun time together as we see staff, parents and children/trainees fellowshipping with one another before the end of the school term.
Toy & Resource Centre (TRC) Inventory/Stock Takes from 1st to 5th December 2014
EIP/SAP teachers cleaned and rearranged the toys and book resources in our TRC during the week. Stock/Inventory takes of resources were tabulated including those for teaching materials too. New resources were also coded and arranged into our TRC.
Christmas Gift Giving by Equatorial (EQ) Hotel Melaka on 3rd and 22nd December 2014
Equatorial Hotel Melaka sponsored a Christmas Gift Giving event which included students from our EIP and SAP on 3rd December 2014 (hanging of Christmas gift requests onto their Christmas tree) and on 22nd December 2014 (giving of Christmas gifts as requested by our students) respectively.
We welcome new year 2015 with staff force of 6 teachers in EIP & SAP, 4 trainers in YAP and 1 centre manager, supporting 23 students in EIP, 9 students in SAP and 8 trainees in YAP.
We are grateful for your continuous support in our field of work as we reach out to more children and young adults as well as families who are in need.

Luncheon in YAP on 18th August 2014
Staff from OCBC (Melaka Branch) visited our centre and had a scrumptious lunch of nasi lemak prepared by our trainees. It was a fun time together of understanding more about our work in Wings Melaka as well as having the opportunity to interact more with our trainees.
Parents Support Group on 23rd August 2014
Our guest speaker for the occasion is Ms. Lois Fu, a teacher with Bridges EIP, PJ. She shared about early communication skills: what we can do to help develop and enhance a child’s communication skills, and subsequently to encourage them to communicate with others.
It was an insightful session as parents and service providers are able to be more equipped with the skills and to share experiences and tips with each other on the topic.
Visitation from Board Members of Cheras Baptist Church on 11th September 2014
2 board members from Cheras Baptist Church visited our centre and observed our EIP and YAP programmes. YAP trainees also prepared lunch for our visitors.
Centre Outing to Melaka Wonderland Theme Park & Resort on 18th September 2014
This outing was held during school term break and it was opened to all programmes ie EIP, SAP & YAP. A total of 35 parents/relatives and 26 children joined the outing and had tremendous amount of play and fun for the day!
Coffee Session on 26th September 2014
This session was held in McDonalds, Limbongan and was the last session scheduled for the year. A total of 25 parents and 17 children attended the event. It was a casual time for parents to fellowship and to get to know one another while their children played with their friends in the playroom under the supervision of the teachers.
As to-date, our staff force of 6 teachers in EIP & SAP, 5 trainers in YAP and 1 centre manager are supporting 29 students in EIP, 4 students in SAP and 8 trainees in YAP.
We are grateful for your continuous support throughout the years that allows us to cater better to more children and young adults with developmental needs.

Parents Support Group on 24th May 2014
Our guest speaker for the event is Ms. Wong Tze Ping, a Speech Language Therapist from University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus. During the session, she helped us understand better on the development of speech and shared with us strategies and tips on encouraging speech, language and communication of a child.
The event was an interactive one as there are parents who also shared their experiences and how they helped/encouraged their child’s communication skills.
5th National Early Childhood Intervention Conference (NECIC 2014) from 4th to 7th June 2014
The event was held in Kolej Sains Kesihatan Bersekutu (KSKB) Sultan Azlan Shah, Ulu Kinta, Ipoh, Perak. The theme for the conference is “Passion has no Parameters” and it focuses on (1) inspiring families to be involved, (2) inclusive education, advocacy and needs beyond EIP, (3) sharing our pain, hope and ideas, behavioural management & skills transfer and (4) policy and managers.
Participants of the event consist of locals and international attendees. All staff from Wings Melaka attended the event.
Visit from the dentist on 21st and 22nd July 2014
There was a visit from Klinik Pergigian Klebang Besar, Melaka consisting of a dentist and 3 nurses to our centre. They did dental screenings and a presentation on “How to Brush Teeth” during the session. We are able to understand better about dental health i.e. why and what we should do to take care of our teeth & gums.
As to-date, we are supporting 27 students in EIP, 5 students in SAP and 8 students in YAP with 6 teachers in EIP & SAP, 5 trainers in YAP and a centre manager.
A big thank you for your constant support as it is a blessing to us in our work in Wings!

Coffee Session on 21st February 2014
Parents from our EIP Groups 1 & 3 organised the event. They each brought a meal to share with other parents from other groups/programmes. It was a fun-filled time as they share stories and life experiences with one another as well as encouraging each other in their walk with their child.
Parents Support Group on 23rd March 2014
Our guest speaker is Dr. Alefiya Nomanbhoy, Assistant Professor in Special Needs and Director of Postgraduate Taught Programmes at the School of Education, University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus. Emphasis on the topic shared was on behaviour management i.e. “Using an Intervention Continuum to Manage Behaviours”.
In this session, participants were taught on how to identify a problem behaviour, understanding it and subsequently finding solutions to manage it. It was an enlightening session as it gives us a better understanding of managing and teaching our students/children more effectively.
YAP outing to TESCO Melaka on 14th April 2014
Our young adult trainees and their instructors went to the shopping mall via the public bus. They each bought groceries on their respective shopping list and had lunch together before heading back to the centre. They had lots of fun during the outing and enjoy the time spent with their friends and instructors.
As to-date our centre has 17 students in EIP, 5 students in SAP and 8 trainees in YAP supported by staff force of 4 teachers for EIP & SAP, 4 trainers for YAP, an administrator and a centre manager.
We are grateful for your continuous support and encouragement to our work throughout the years. It has been a blessing to our centre as well as in touching the lives of those who are in need.

Graduation Party 2013 on November 2013
Wings Melaka organized a Graduation Party for students who are graduating from the EIP & SAP programmes. The event was held on 27th November 2013 in our premises. A total of 79 people (ie parents/relatives/children) and 9 staff attended the graduation party.
It was a fun-filled event with performances by students and trainees from all 3 programmes i.e EIP, SAP and YAP. There was also a certificate presentation to our graduating students (3 from EIP and 4 from SAP) by our Chairman, Mr Chee Kong Chi and a cake cutting ceremony.
Workshop with Robert Deller in December 2014
7 of Wings Melaka staff attended a one day workshop organized by SPICES in EFC Wangsa Maju on 4th December 2013. The workshop is conducted by Mr Robert Deller, a child psychologist from UK on the topic of “Sexuality”. It was also attended by staff from other centres namely SPICES, OrKids, Early Steps and Bridges EIP.
It was a great time of learning and sharing with each other on how to teach children with learning difficulties about their own sexuality i.e boy/girl, their differences, puberty etc. We also shared and discussed about past situations that we faced and on how we managed them or could have managed them.
Inventory takes on December 2013
As the students and trainees are on a one month break in December, the staff preps up for the upcoming New Year. They did inventory takes for the Toy & Resource Centre as well as preparing teaching materials for the students and trainees for 2014.
Start of a New Year on January 2014
It was back to school for the students and trainees after a month’s holiday. We started the year with 15 students in EIP, 6 students in SAP and 7 trainees in YAP.
We are thankful for your generous contributions and support as they have helped us spurn the work forward. As we start a new year, we hope that we could reach out and provide support to more families with special needs children and young adults.
