Education and rehabilitation training provided to deafblind children by Sense International (India) will enable them to improve their communication, mobility and access to information, thus improving the quality of life and supporting the families of the deafblind individuals.
Deafblindness is a unique disability. It is a combination of vision and hearing loss in an individual leading to the complex problems in communication, mobility and accessing information. They have difficulty in anticipating events and recognizing people, places, objects and activities and need appropriate needs-based education. There is little awareness regarding this disability and consequently the support system does not exist.
Sense International (India) will be able to reach out and provide deafblind services (education and training in communication, mobility and accessing information) in the region especially to deserving children who are to be identified and in need of support and services. This shall be done through Centre and Home based services.
The aim is to increase education for deafblind children in Sriganganagar and its surrounding villages by providing services through centre based and home based support. The objective is to provide needs based education and rehabilitation services, improve the quality of life and support the families of the deafblind individuals. This will lead to awareness on the issue of deafblindness and will empower parents of deafblind children with knowledge and skills to initiate services in this region.
