Funded by three Blind who are visually challenged. Snehadeep runs an education program in internet and other new media for the Visually Challenged. Every year 50 to 75 young adults are accepted in this program and are supported all the way to employment. The main purpose of this project is to provide a computer literacy rehabilitation program for the Visually Impaired. Through this project they can build up their ability to independently access information using a Computer and the Internet,
India is home to more than 40 Million Visually Impaired. Majority of them do not have access to education, social stigma another cause and are not aware of the opportunities. The Youths especially in rural India, lack the privilege of good education and access to any information technology. With most industries adopting internet and new technology for its operations, the traditional employment opportunities for the blind - such as operating public telephone booths - are dwindling.
Operating computers and using the internet is a great skill that the Visually Challenged person can be educated on. With simple text-to-speech software like JAWS and accessibility tools, the blind can learn to navigate the PC and the World Wide Web like any other person. This education leads to recruitment opportunities for IT related jobs like Technical Writing, Customer Service, and Non-IT jobs like HR consultancy, Marketing and Banking Services.
Snehadeep Educates and Empowers 150 youths in different programmes a year like Computer Education, Soft Skill training, Spoken English and ultimately preparing them to compete with the Sighted at various levels in the Job Market. This training enables them to become Income contributors for their families and lead a life with dignity and economic independence.
