Educate & Empower 525 Rural Girls(Anupshahr,India)

Summary

The project will equip 525 underprivileged rural girls with quality education, nutritious meal (3 times a day),books & stationary, uniforms (twice in a year), transportation along with 'scholarship of Rs. 10' for each day's attendance.The programme has reached out to more than 3000 beneficiaries in the past spread across 60+ villages in Anupshahr, India.The project has given 165 graduate girls to the community until now. Education would break the cycle of poverty,unequal status and social abuse

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

40,000 families in Anupshahr live below poverty line and 80% of the girls coming from these rural families do not go to school as investing in a girl child education is considered unimportant. Girls are considered as a social burden and married off at early age. Unwanted, uneducated, forgotten, discriminated she ends up into a vulnerable position. Gendered notions and lack of finances prevents parents from sending their daughters to school, thereby, not allowing 'Her' to become Independent..

How will this project solve this problem?

This project offers a unique 'Educational Package' to girls wherein, tuition fees, books/stationary, uniforms, healthy meals (3 times a day), transportation, timely medical check- ups etc. are provided free of cost. Along with, a scholarship of Rs. 10 for each day's attendance. Parents bear 'no costs' towards their daughters' education. Quality education, life- skills, leadership skills etc. learned at the school would facilitate 'her' in becoming the 'role model' for other rural girls to follow

Potential Long Term Impact

525 underprivileged rural girls will receive quality education, good health status, employable skills and a substantial amount of money ($800-900)deposited in her bank account which she gets post school completion. Educational training received at the school,shared with the family and community would facilitate in transforming the stereotypical mind-set of people towards girl child education,thereby, improving literacy levels and socio economic status of disadvantaged rural girls/women.
