Kidpower provides education scholarship for poor girl children and provides support in terms of academic fee, uniform, books etc. The girl children usually are from slums while their parents are mostly daily wage labour. Unable to pay the fees most of this girls drop out of school. Given the vulnerable situation of the child Kidpower empowers the child through training. The skills training program focuses on personal safety, self protection as well as personal development of the children.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The poor are sending their children to low cost private schools so that their children receive good quality education. However when the family is unable to afford the education then the girl children are the first to drop out. Kidpower has come up with the idea of scholarship for these poor girl children so that they stay in school. It is also observed that the girl children are more vulnerable to abuse and there is a need to empower them to see themselves as strong, valuable and capable.
How will this project solve this problem?
Kidpower scholarship will ensure that the child does not drop out of the school because of poor financial situation at home. Kidpower training will empower the child and helps the children to see themselves as strong, valuable and capable of breaking away from unhealthy patterns
Potential Long Term Impact
Kidpower believes scholarships for poor deserving girl students are a sound investment for the future generation. Kidpower pays an education fee and then provides school uniform, books, bag etc to the children. James Tootely in his book, 'The beautiful Tree' prescribes a similar approach to educate the poor children and calls it 'targeted vouchers for the poorest'. Kidpower training will prevent bullying, molestation, abduction, and other violence through knowledge, action, and skills.
