Ana Cecilia in the "Water Day Parade"
Ana Cecilia in the "Water Day Parade"

The first half of the school year is over and many things have happened in our Early Education Centre. Thanks to your help, much is being accomplished. The project is progressing, having a profound impact not only on its 45 little students, but also on their families.

Our 3 groups of children have significantly progressed in their emotional, cognitive and social development. Many children have benefited greatly by attending the Centre, like Ana Cecilia.
Ana Cecilia is a Quechua speaker 4 years old girl. Her mother, a young girl, abandoned her when she was a baby and her grandparents take care of her since then. Her grandmother is a street vendor and his grandfather has problems with alcohol. They speak little Spanish, have never gone to school, and had no money to send Ana Cecilia to kindergarden before, to buy the school supplies, uniform, and all the things that are asked in the public kindergarden. For that reason, until this year Ana Cecilia spent all day with her grandmother, helping her to sell her products to tourists in the town square, from 6am to 5pm.

Since March Ana attends Yachay Wasi each morning and has had a lot of progress. She can speak Spanish and communicate better with others, she has learned to count up to 10, to recognize colors in Spanish and English, to sing songs, to express herself through art and interact with peers. She is a very loving and cheerful girl and is very happy to come to Yachay Wasi.
In her own words: "I like coming to the kindergarden because I have much fun and learn many new things. I love playing on the swings and singing songs."
Her grandparents are very happy with the Centre as well, and participate in all the tasks and parents activities.
Like Ana Cecilia, many children are well cared, fed and are learning through play, while their mothers can work without being concerned about their children, knowing they are at Yachay Wasi.
Thanks again for making this possible,
