Update from Asha Deepa School for the Blind
The school has re-opened in the month of June after summer break. By mid of June, most of the regular children were back to school without a visit or reminder. However, as usual, we made at least one visit to them during summer vocation so as to keep their parents informed that they have to resend their child to school in the month of June. The current strength of the school is 40 with 10 children on & off. The regular activities of Asha Deepa are on its way including braille learning, vocational activities & life skills.
While continuing our regular activities, we are able to bring in four new kids from the villages of Bidar district in the current year.
We all know that Sonia Gandhi is the most powerful women in Indian politics! Our little girl’s parents are the pet of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi for which they have named their little girl’s name as Sonia Gandhi. Unfortunately, she cannot see the world as Sonia Gandhi. She is about five year old and brought into Asha Deepa. She was excited to touch a braille slate for the first time.
Archana is from a tiny village, called Holsamudra in Bhalki Tq of Bidar District. She was first identified during summer filed visit by our community organizer in the current year. She was brough to school after many visits as their parent made few visits to school to see how we function, and how their child can learn braille. After couple off visits, they got convinced & sent Archan to Asha Deeps
Ashok comes from village called kaouta of Aurad Taluka, Bidar district. He too is blind by birth. Though we were trying to bring him from the last couple of months, we only succeeded in the month of June. His parents still do not want to keep him in the school as they are most affectionate. We have counseled them with the help of villagers. Now they are in comfort zone. The frequency of visit to school has come down drastically.
Ganesh comes from a tiny village called niduvancha, from Bidar taluka. We did not face much of the problem while bringing him to school as his parents were very cooperative. After we explained them, they understood how important it is for Ganesh to be educated. He started learning braille letters and he is a very bright boy.
65 the Independence Day was celebrated on 15th August. Mr. Ajay Srivastava, commanding officer, Air Force, Bidar was the chief guest of the occasion. Children of Asha Deepa have performed plays & acts on the occasion. A group Dance was performed by Asha Deepa Kids.
