Summary
The Eastern Congo Initiative is the only advocacy and grant-making organization wholly focused on working with and for the people of eastern Congo to create a sustainable and successful eastern Congo.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
In the past 15 years, conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo has killed over 5 million people. The humanitarian crisis is especially severe in eastern Congo. Despite overwhelming odds, there is hope. Communities are working together to help those in need, create economic opportunity and advocate for peace. Leaders from around the world are working in partnership with the people of the DRC, and people from around the world are learning about and advocating for a new future for the region.
How will this project solve this problem?
ECI works with and on behalf of the people of eastern Congo to raise public awareness, drive policy change and increase the quantity and quality of funding that supports local, community-based approaches to heal and sustain eastern Congo.
Potential Long Term Impact
We believe that increased support for local, community based approaches combined with targeted advocacy will help create an eastern Congo vibrant with opportunities for economic and social development, where a robust civil society can flourish.
Project Message
The situation in eastern Congo has been neglected for far too long...We will work together with the extraordinary Congolese people who are making a positive difference in their own communities.
