July Update Report - The People have Spoken!

Happy parents in Las Margaritas
Happy parents in Las Margaritas

For our July project update, we´d like to share some results from our previous “I want to, I can… be successful in school” project in order to demonstrate what is possible with your continued support. This month, we’ll let the project participants do the talking!

One of the teachers who participated in the “I want to, I can… be successful in school” workshop noted the differences in her teaching style before and after the workshop, and how she encourages students to take an active participatory role in class:

“Yes, I think that there has been a change.  There are things that make us think more about what we do now, because it´s not like what we did before.  Before, we teachers were traditional, now we give the opportunity for free expression to all of the children.”

A father who participated in the “I want to, I can…learn to be a parent” workshop noted how providing more encouragement and support to his children has affected their school achievement:

“When the kids take a test, or when I see their homework, I see that where before they got a 60 or 70%, now they get an 80, 90 or 100%.”

These encouraging testimonials show us that adult community members have learned from the “I want to, I can” workshops how to provide an environment that promotes children´s growth and school achievement.
