To empower Impoverished Mayan youth in their education by providing a library of textbooks, research materials, literary works, DVDs, and computer aids
In a remote rural region north of Barillas, Huehuetenango, Guatemala, populated by 75,000 inhabitants, no no high school exists. The Mayan Center's high school offers scholarships to selected impoverished Mayan students from 250 villages. Library resources will serve a critical component in the quality of education they will receive. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, textbooks, literary resources, charts, maps, manuals, computer aids, and other materials are needed
A supply of books and educational materials will dramatically aid the quality of education in academics, vocational training, and leadership instruction.
The Mayan Center's high school philosophy, "service to community," emphasizes the intent of the education--that graduates will be trained to become future leaders in the region and apply sustainable practices that will benefit their villages.
