Emma is a secondary-school teacher specializing in arts and languages who graduated from the Fransisco Morazan Pedagogic University in Tegucigalpa. She holds a bachelor's degree in linguistics from the National University of Honduras, Tegucigalpa, and has more than 25 years of experience working with women. In 1993 she founded Honduras' first shelter for women and child victims of violence.
