Summary
CDI-Pará is part of CDI - an NGO who conducts technology and civic engagement education and trainings. Pará is a large, impoverished state in the Amazon region with a complex environmental landscape.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The majority of Pará's 7 million live in extreme poverty without adequate health and social services, and amidst violence and drug trafficking. There are also problems of physical and social isolation, as some communities live deep in the Amazon in areas accessible only by plane or boat. CDI-Pará operates 36 technology and civic education centers throughout the state, including locations in many rural and underserved areas, where students learn IT, job, and community problem-solving skills.
How will this project solve this problem?
CDI-Pará has 36 centers each serving almost 250 students annually. Students use IT as a tool to qualify for higher-paying jobs, and for solving local community problems primarily facing youth, such as drugs, prostitution, and economic isolation.
Potential Long Term Impact
CDI-Pará has 36 centers in 13 municipalities - each serves 240 students per year. We teach IT and job skills, and open limitless educational and cultural doorways that will have vital and lasting impact on the students and their communities.
Project Message
I knew of CDI and their activities, but I didn't know that the students were also thinking about our community. I enjoyed their visit and saw how we can work together to solve community problems.
