This project will develop safe and sanitary drinking water supplies to rural villages in Nigeria. The project will be implemented through the local University in partnership with local communities.
Obtaining safe water for drinking has remained a prerogative to the privileged few in Nigeria. Water supplies in public schools, health care institutions and other public sources are often contaminated due to the lack of proper sewage waste management. Prevalence of water-born diseases (such as typhoid fever and cholera) has been on the increase, especially among children and the elderly.
The villagers will be trained to properly operate and maintain the water supply system in order to assure long-term sustainability of the system.
To provide sanitary drinking water in public sources like health institutions and schools, and to provide water quality monitoring training to students to identify problems of water-borne diseases.
I am truly excited about this opportunity to develop potable water supply for the benefits of public schools, health care institutions and rural communities throughout the many needy areas in Nigeria.
