Summary
Strengthen women’s cooperatives, develop management skills of the members, and improve the economic position of the women through income generating projects and sustainable agriculture practices.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
In Nepal poverty is not just a lack of income. It is a lack of resources, opportunities and skills. The poor typically have poor quality land, limited rights, widespread illiteracy and a near absence of business infrastructure beyond agriculture. Cultural traditions make the problem worse and ensure that women have even fewer economic or political roles. The project will help 300 women access economic opportunities, build leadership skills, and develop sustainable farming methods.
How will this project solve this problem?
Training will be provided on sustainable agriculture and environmental awareness, also on matters of governance, and skills to run an effective cooperative. Information sharing will be encouraged and there will also be workshops on gender issues.
Potential Long Term Impact
Improve food security and livelihoods through economic development opportunities while also improving the natural environment. Advance women’s leadership development and create institutions that they control.
Project Message
Women can make their own decision if they are economically strong. Economic empowerment opens door for women to address other social issues.
