Women’s Global Empowerment Fund offers microcredit loans and educational programming to women in northern Uganda, specifically in and around Gulu. Our strategy is to provide women with the framework necessary to create viable opportunities for themselves and their families. Through grassroots strategies, marginalized women are given the tools necessary to alleviate poverty thus facilitating sustainable development and empowerment.
Project Summary:
The Big Smile Dental Clinic was held May 29th thru June 1st for clients and families participating in the Credit Plus program. A dental/medical team from Denver, Colorado traveled to Gulu to provide free dental care and hygiene to Women’s Global. Dr. Mark Novolen, DDS and volunteers worked with Gulu based dentist Dr. Joseph, to provide quality dental care and education to the women and families in our program.
A full range of dental services was provided, including: fillings, extractions, etc.The clinic will be held in the Women’s Global offices, with assistance from volunteers, ensuring that our clients are organized and their dental needs are met. This is an important opportunity for our clients and their families, to receive quality dental care and education that will last a lifetime, adding to the goal of creating sustainable development for our participants.
Over 2.5 days the dentists were able to see over 170 patients, relieving pain and providing critical medical care. Our peer counselors participated, running the check-in and check-out procedures, helping patient who were in pain, ensuring that the clinic was a success for their community.
We hope you continue to support WGEF’s Dental Clinic and the right to access quality dental care in post conflict northern Uganda.
