Women and families have no access to dental care in post conflict northern Uganda. WGEF's Big Smile dental clinic team will provide critical dental health services for two days, May 30 and 31st.
Northern Uganda is a post conflict region recovering from a brutal 25+ insurgency, creating lack of access to adequate medical and dental care. We held our first dental clinic in 2009, serving over 150 people in two days; in addition we held dental health education trainings for children, providing toothbrushes and instruction. Many people we saw had serious, and painful, dental issues which were addressed by our dentists and hygenist. This type of service provides vital services for clients.
By providing the two day dental clinic WGEF clients and others will have access to quality dental care. Many of our clients, their children, and members of our community have never seen a dentist, unable to address painful dental issues.
Although microfinance is an effective intervention to alleviate extreme poverty, when bundled with social capital building programming can be transformative. Health is one of our areas of focus, and providing access to quality dental care is critical
