"My tooth hurts" is a common complaint among many children and adults in Kenya too poor to see a dentist. Oral pain can keep children from concentrating on their school work and adults from functioning well at home and work. The Dentcare Kenya Foundation is the only organization that is concerned with the provision of free dental care to needy Kenyans.
There is no free dental care for poor children and adults in Kenya. When a child or adult has a cavity or gum disease, they are left to their own home remedies to deal with the pain. Many are not informed about proper oral hygiene.
PATHWAYS Leadership for Progress graduate, Dr. David Mundia, has formed the first Kenyan dental care foundation, Dentcare Kenya. His goal is to educate communities, build capacity within communities to provide information to others and importantly, provide free oral care services.
The long term impact of Dentcare Kenya will be the improvement of oral care of thousands of needy Kenyan children and adults. It will likely also positively impact the ability of children to do well in school and adults to be able to work more effectively, as well as improving their overall health.
Very few people are able to access dental care in Kenya. With this new foundation, Dentcare Kenya, we want to help disadvantaged children and adults who have oral health problems.
