In Slovakia there are currently 4500 children without a mother or a father who would read them a bedtime story in the evening. They live in orphanages. 10 years ago, this number was one third more. These children often suffer from hurts and insecurities more than others. The Navrat organization has been helping them to find adoptive mothers and fathers, foster families and it also works on helping families in crisis. Help us: We want every child in Slovakia to have a family.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Parents of adopted children are often helpless. The children are very frequently disadvantages, with traumatic past. They want to provide their child with happy childhood, but they often can't do it themselves without any help.
How will this project solve this problem?
Organisation Navrat has been helping abandoned and disadvataged children in crisis for a long time. In 2009 we provided 13 children and their families with a special therapeutical binding program, we assisted and individually consulted 27 children using filial therapy and many more children took part in our special therapeutical groups. We want to carry out with this program and increase its capacity that is not sufficient today.
Potential Long Term Impact
In Slovakia is still more than 4500 children without parents. The long-term goal of this project is to close all the orphanages - to find adopting families for every child who now lives in an orphanage. This may seem to be very ambitious, naive or even not possible. But if you would see how childhood in orphanage looks like, you would agree that this is the only goal we have to be aiming for.
