Summer Opportunities Initiative identifies, coordinates, and funds internships and other summer activities such as camps and classes for participants to further their academic and career interests.
Coaching for College serves public school students in Washington, DC's Shaw neighborhood. More than 70 percent of our students are living below the poverty level, with the majority from single-parent families. Overall, our students have little exposure to life outside their neighborhood. Summer Opportunities Initiative (SOI) is designed to open the eyes of our students to possibilities that otherwise may have been inaccessible to them.
SOI coordinates internships and other summer enrichment activities for participants to further their interests. During the summer, we meet weekly with participants to provide guidance and support.
SOI helps prepare students for high school and college by exposing them to different career paths. This allows students to choose courses applicable to their career interests. Ultimately, it exposes students to experiences to impact their academics.
