Yachay Wasi is building a daycare center in Ollantaytambo, Peru that will provide quality early education for children while also giving their mothers more opportunities to work outside of the home.
Many mothers in Ollantaytambo are responsible for raising their children on their own. While some women are able to bring their kids with them to work, many others find it impossible to pursue work outside of their home due to the time constraints of raising kids. Because they are unable to work, these women have an even harder time supporting their families economically. There is currently no daycare available in Ollanta for pre-kindergarten age kids.
Yachay Wasi is currently in the process of constructing a daycare center. This will benefit children by providing them with an education that will help them succeed in later studies and their mothers by giving them greater economic opportunities.
Yachay Wasi will educate dozens of kids, starting them on the path to academic success and finding good jobs. Their mothers will have more opportunities to work, thereby raising their standard of living and increasing their self-esteem.
