What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

This project aims to reduce water pollution by used oil generated by mechanics who then disposed the oil into the environment. Through this scheme, partcipants access loans by trading in waste. In return for safely collecting and recycling the used oil, the mechanics get small loans for improving their motor vehicle repair business. This leads to more business income. The mechanics then repay the small loans by delivering more used oil. This activity is being undertaken in Nairobi, Kenya.

How will this project solve this problem?

- Provide small loans to 70 mechanics. This will enable the project to safely collect 31,000 litres of used oil. - Improve the used oil storage and handling facility. This ensures safe disposal of the oil through recycling

Potential Long Term Impact

The project will enable 70 mechanics to obtain a loan that will enable them to collect and recycle 31,500 litres of used oil. This will help to conserve the environment and save 1.5 billion litres of ground and surface water from oil contamination
