With 90% of its population living on under $2 per day, Uganda is one of the poorest countries in the world. Opportunity International has a vision to bring life-changing financial services to Uganda.
Only half of Uganda's population is in the formal work force. Unemployment often results when there is a lack of access to microloans, and safe places to store money. The poorest of the poor in Uganda did not have access to financial solutions that we take for granted. Savings accounts, insurance, and other services are no where to be found- until now.
Ugandans now have the ability to increase financial literacy through training, trust groups, and microloans because of the work of Opportunity International. As part of this solution, the Banking on Africa Campaign exists to expand rural outreach.
Expanding bank building will enable more clients to open savings accounts and have access to microloans to start their own businesses. This works towards Opportunity's goal of raising 123 million dollars to reach 30 million people living in Africa.
