The pink flowers behind the ears of the small girls are rosy periwinkle, a native medicinal plant curing children leukemia besids other multiple effects. Malagasy women work very hard, caring for many children, running the household and daily chores, working in fields, harvesting fuel wood. They clearly they need some women creative time, time of learning, time for crafts. The Community Center will provide with peaceful space for them away from their daily chores. In April 2010 the women FIMPAHARA members have prepared ground for a community garden and together with Ho Avy have planted many different types of vegetables: conventional corn, beens, sweet potatoes but also beats, radishes, carrots, lettuce, spinach and other leafy vegetables, tomatoes, eggplats, potatoes, basil, ... Straw mattress and basket weaving already exists
The women in Ranobe have been already weaving mattresses and basket from Typha that grows in the lake Ranobe. In the Center they can meet regularly and learn advanced techniques as well as start new crafts. (view small | med | large | orig)

Learning time

Learning time
The villagers welcome visitors, who are bringing them inspiration. Learning is often reciprocal. In a Community Center the villagers can display their crafts and document their efforts. (view small | med | large | orig)

Nursery community work

Nursery community work
Ho Avy together with FIMPAHARA have established three extensive nurseries and will continue in nursery work growing native endemic trees and fruit trees. A demonstration tree nursery will be part of the Community Center. (view small | med | large | orig)

Combined with other sources of funding, this project raised enough money to fund the outlined activities and is no longer accepting donations.
