Over the past 27 years, K.I.D.S. has provided 70 million kids in need with over $1 billion worth of new clothing, toys, books and baby products. Our goal is to continue to increase the number of kids we help. K.I.D.S. receives product donations from generous manufacturers and retailers and then distributes them through a network of nearly 1,000 local community social service agencies in the U.S. and abroad. For every $10 donation, we distribute $100+ of new products to kids in need.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
According to the U.S. Census, 46.2 million people in the U.S. - nearly 1 in 6 - are living in poverty, the highest level since 1993. More than 16 million children in the U.S. currently live in poverty. Research suggests that families need an income of about twice the federal poverty level to meet their basic needs (source: National Center for Children in Poverty, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University).
How will this project solve this problem?
We provide new clothing, shoes, books, toys, baby products and more to kids in need. Over the past 26 years, K.I.D.S. has distributed over $1 billion worth of new merchandise to more than 70 million children and families challenged by poverty, homelessness, domestic abuse, low literacy, military family service, major illness, incarcerated family members, and disaster survival.
Potential Long Term Impact
We currently provide new clothing, shoes, books, toys, and baby supplies to nearly 30% of the children living in poverty in the U.S. Our goal is to be able to help 50% of children living in poverty within the next five years. We provide clothing to keep them warm and enable them to go to school, books to help educate them, and toys to make their days happier and enhance their self-esteem.
