Approximately 500 people in Segovia lack access to safe, clean, potable water. EWB will help provide water to every house by means of a new well, a storage tank and a distribution system.
Segovia is a community located on the outskirts of La Esperanza, Honduras. Approximately 80 families, 500 people live in Segovia. The majority of residents use an existing well for drinking, laundry and meal preparation that is heavily contaminated while others (mostly women and children) spend a large portion of their days gathering water from other sources. This project will provide infrastructure to protect and purify a new well, bringing clean, protected water directly to their homes.
A topographic and health survey plus water quality tests were taken. A new well and storage tank are being built with a distribution system to provide access to clean potable water at every house. More efficient stoves and latrines will follow after.
The EWB SCFL chapter has made a 5 year commitment to the community of Segovia. Our goal is to help improve the health and quality of life of the local families through the provision of a clean potable water source and drainage and sanitation systems.
This project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
