Clean Water for Talle Batti, Cambodia

Summary

Our chapter's goal is to implement a clean water supply for the 3,500 residents of Talle Batti, Cambodia. The solution will be environmental conscious and sustainable for the villages.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

The 3,500 residents in the three villages of Talle Batti suffer from many water-borne illnesses and a high child mortality rate due to contaminated water. The people in the community are primarily rice farmers and have little education. Currently they are forced to collect water from dirty ponds and streams during the rainy season. Although different techniques were tried in the past, the pumps quickly failed and the community did not have the supplies, funds, or knowledge to repair them.

How will this project solve this problem?

The first step is to conduct an on site assessment which will evaluate the best water supply solution based on the local environment, supplies and maintenance budget. Once a sustainable solution is in place, we will conduct maintenance education.

Potential Long Term Impact

Clean water will improve the health of everyone in the community. Ultimately a healthier community will mean a more productive work force and an improved economy. Healthy children will also be able to take advantage of local education programs.
