The project will drill boreholes and construct standard toilet facilities in rural primary schools in Lira District which will improve health conditions of pupils through increased access and coverage of clean and safe drinking water in rural areas. It will also reduce diarrhea among school going pupils through Improved proper hygiene behaviors and decreased open defecation and increased use of improved sanitation and hygiene in rural community and primary schools
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The limited access to safe and clean drinking water has continued to affect girls' retention rate in primary schools. This is particularly for girls in the menstruation age bracket that are unable bear the shame of attending classes when they have menstruated on themselves. Girls in this age bracket prefer to drop out primary school and stay at home. When they dropout of school, most of them become victim of early marriage and teenage pregnancy.

Potential Long Term Impact
Improved household income through saving and investing part of the money that was used for buying drugs for treatment. The project will also improve the level of community and personal hygiene. Community members will have the opportunity to put on clean clothes by using available clean water source for bathing and washing their clothes The project will improve health conditions of the targeted population More children will remain in school since dropout rate will reduce
