Summary

A massive earthquake in central China has killed more than 19,500 people and destroyed 4.9 million homes. Mercy Corps is on the ground, delivering critical aid to survivors.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

We will support the urgent needs of earthquake survivors in the most affected parts of Sichuan Province and other surrounding areas.

How will this project solve this problem?

Working alongside a well-respected Chinese NGO, Mercy Corps will deliver critical supplies such as food, water and shelter items, as well as providing technical assistance and coordination for lifesaving relief efforts.

Potential Long Term Impact

Lifesaving emergency aid and assistance to earthquake survivors, leading to longer-term programming to support the economic livelihoods and recovery of families.

Project Message

"Things here are changing so fast. Today was one of the first days that I felt the chaos. It was a sad day, with not many survivors found. The sheer scale and loss of this is hitting people hard."
- Kate Janis, Senior Program Officer
