In 2013 we provided 140 boys and girls between 0 and 5 years old, from the remote rural town of Plato, Magdalena, in the northen region of Colombia, with nutritional , health, educational, family integration support and recreational activities. These young babies and children come from vulnerable homes, they live in tough socio-economic conditions.Born in poor homes, torn apart by conflict, mostly from single mothers, carpenters, fishers and fruit sellers, this children hardly have enough to eat and are frequently not registeres which implies they can't access the already scarce goverment services.
We counducted 140 registration of babies and young children reestablishing their right to identity, making them visible and giving them access to further services and oportunities from the start. Registration and an identity is a Human Right, we wanted to make sure all the children in the community were off to the best start.
Our organization also conducted a vaccination campaing, in order to restablish the children's rights to health, teaching parents about the importance of clean water and sanitaton in their development, 140 boys and girls were vaccinated and can now look foward to healthier lives.
Education is a fundamental Human Right, we provided 140 children in the community with quality day-care and specialized early childish education. Our wonderful workers and volunteers also organized a Book fair and reading event during carnaval providing rarely seen recreational activities for everyone!
Last year we not only provided support for the children, but also for their families with high-quality daycare, recreational activities, educational trainning in healthy nutricion and sanitation. Culminating in a grand march by mothers and volunteers to inform the community about the benefits of breastfeeding and a healthy nutrition.
In rural Colombia children have very few oportunities to play and have new experiences that further their development. Violence and stunted economic growth in ther communities prevent them from having almost any recreational and cultural activities available. So in celebration of halloween or as it is now in Colombia Children's Day, our amazing group of project leaders and volunteers provided a wonderful set of activities for the children of San Andrés de Sotavento a remote village in the North East Colombian province of Cordoba, where we have development programs.
Recreational activities and playing is fundamental for the healthy development of boy and girls, new experiencies are the best way to encourage learning and development during childhood. So on the weekend of the 26 of October, the children of the San Andrés de Sotavento got together in their community play room and games and cultural activities that are rarely enjoyed were aboundant that day, and laughter and games swarmed the room.
The Corporación Juntos Construyendo Futuro team conducted various ludo-educational activities: there was a dance worshop set to Michael Jackson's thriller, the creation of toilet paper mummies, duck duck goose, hide and seek among others, as well as a Halloween film which was a first for lots of the children that had never watch a movie on a big screen before! A 146 of our beneficiaries took part of the celebration including children and their families, that enjoyed a rare peaceful afternoon of fun and entertaiment.
Celebrations such as this create opportunities for healthy recreation, integration and teaching-learning processes aimed at improving the quality of live of young children in rular areas, as well as improve and strengthen our ties and relationship with the community.
Our objective with this project is to raise funds from donors from all over the world in order to support the development of 1200 vulnerable children between 0 and 5 years old. With the expertise we have gained through all these years, we are planning to achieve our goal by providing support in nutrition, health, education, family integration and high quality day care services. These children will grow in safe and protective environments and will have the basis to grow healthy and develop their full potential.
With a very intensse campaign on our social netwoks we have raised awareness about the important of supporting these kind of projects and early childhood in general. So far we have raised $285. We are very thankful with our donors for their support. We are in continuous work to raise the rest of the funds the project requires. If you like our project and you want to support us, please share the word about our work with your family and friends. The children of rural Colombia need your help,
Thank you once more!
