Had you been born in Ng'ombe, Lusaka you may have never had the pleasure of sitting at a desk.
Seem surreal to you? It does to me, but it is in fact the truth.
Growing up in a very nice suburb in Boston I never gave school a thought unless it was somehow to wiggle my way out getting out of my bed and going one cold wintery day. Believe me with a nurse for a mother truancy was not a part of my life. Perhaps my mother realized the gift of an education. Her reality through the Great Depression most likely taught her that.
Now I know. Living in Lusaka for eight years and working in Ng'ombe where hundreds of children just roam the street looking for something to do has taught me this truth. If you were walking through these streets with me you would most definitely ask why there were so many children everywhere!
Chikumbuso is making a difference for many of these kids. We are now sponsoring over 500 children in school but in order to do this we need your continued help. These children, mostly double orphans, can not even be expected to buy their own school supplies. When life is not feeding you more than once a day pens and pencils just do not make the priority cut.
Please continue to help us help others by participating in this school supply drive. It will make a world of difference in these childrens lives to sit a desk, everyday.
