Acute drought conditions are severely affecting over 11 million people in the Horn of Africa in countries like Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Uganda. This has created conditions for famine and mass displacement. CHF International is responding from our country offices in Kenya and Ethiopia to help vulnerable families weather the drought.
Acute drought conditions are severely affecting over 11 million people in the Horn of Africa in countries like Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Uganda. This has created conditions for famine and mass displacement. The effects of the 2011 drought are a culmination of several key factors including increasing food prices, ongoing local conflict, and limited humanitarian access. Insufficient rain has resulted in widespread water shortages, undermining the livelihoods of pastoral communities.
CHF is working to preserve the livelihoods of affected families through improved access to income and agricultural resources. This will mitigate against continued food insecurity during the current crisis and strengthen their income to prevent further vulnerability from disasters.
By helping families weather the current crisis and strengthen their resources for the future, we will ensure that they can better withstand future crises.
