Enabling disabled children to access basic education equally with the normal school children without any discrimination by providing education and therapy to disabled and non-disabled pre-school children as required and prepare them for admission into mainstream schools ensuring continuing education and advocating inclusion. It is difficult for children in areas of low socioeconomic standing to access preschool and disabled children are discriminated against.
Our challenge is the negative attitudes about inclusive education in our low socioeconomic target area, denial of admission to children with disability, a non supportive community and staff untrained in teaching children with disability. Those with intellectual disability suffer most. Consequently, lack of education keeps these children in a perpetual bind of unemployment, sickness and poverty. All children with disability as well as their mothers and the community in general will benefit
The project will provide equal educational opportunities to disabled and non-disabled children in an inclusive set up not available now. Conducting workshops on benefits of inclusive education to all stake holders will motivate acceptance.
Disabled children who get into mainstream schools through our project who successfully complete school stand a better chance for employment later and independence. Impact on family, schoolmates and community is intangible but leads to social change.
