Light At The End Of The Tunnel

16-21 years old, in Kaimosi, Kenya
Map of LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL In my community at Bunyore Girls' High School, we value helping each other and bringing hope to the hopeless. It was the second term of our fourth year term of secondary or high school education.Since it was a school policy for the students to clear any fee balance or nay amount of money they owned the school, many students were sent home to bring the arrears. This was like an obvious thing to do but during our year it was not.One student was sent home to bring the arrears but two months down the line the student had not come back to school. It was later discovered that the student owed the school a large amount of money and she could not pay back the money by the date of the deadline. The class teacher, Mr. Makokha, sacrificed himself and urged the class to contribute any amount of money they had to help their colleague. The parents stopped in and contributed some money that was paid the students came back to school. Furthermore,Mr.Makokha helped the student to apply for a bursary and he is also one of the founders of "life-touch organization" in the school that contributes basic properties needed by a student in school and helps poor students feed comfortable and loved [in the school. Mr.Makokha taught us a remarkable lesson that will forever linger in our heart strings at whatever place we will live on this earth. Read more.

Map of Child sexual Abuse in the community On Thursday,we were invited by Reverend Ngatho,to go and speak to the parents of he's private school about child abuse and mental abuse since it was so common in the area. When I had to talked on sexual abuse, many concerns were from the parents. Most of them said they feared to report rape cases because they may not want to spoil the family's name if maybe the father or close relative commits it ok spoil one's name for example if its the pastor who's involved. We had to tell them on child's protection rights and the importance of reporting such cases. Also, they raised the issue of the chief's facing so long to write them the so required latters in hospitals and sometimes shut them down and hence one ends up not getting the required attention. I gave them a contact of MSF,a medical organisation who gives medication without thinking or asking for the so called chief latters and evidence,so as to protect and treat the victim first and provides guidance and councilling latter. They were so happy a brut the organisation and each and everyone of them took the contact. Read more.
