THANK YOU! You have nearly covered the cost of 75 new girls in school! We are currently doing our summer school program and recruiting for new kindergarten classes for September. We will be adding 100 more kindergarteners to our school this year, bringing our total number up to 225! more girls who need their school fees covered for the 2014-2015 school year. Let's start with the next 25. If we reach our goal, we'll cover the cost of 75 girls in school next year. Will you change her story with us
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Here are the facts. An estimated 1/3 of girls in the developing world will be married before the age of 18. The literacy rate in Liberia is 60.8%, making Liberia 188 out of 194 countries. 73% of Liberian children lack an education. Over 80% of them are girls. The most frequently reported crime in Liberia is rape of girls ages 10-14. In West Point, an area with 75,000 people, there is only one government school. The girls of West Point need your help.
How will this project solve this problem?
The MTM Academy provides girls an inspiring, safe environment to learn and grow. We take the wellness of our girls seriously by approaching education holistically. In addition to a quality education, we provide our girls with two hearty meals per day, healthcare, nutritional guidance, psychological support, a vast after-school program, computer classes, access to a library, and vocational training.
Potential Long Term Impact
An extra year of primary school boosts girls' eventual wages by 10-20%. An extra year of secondary school, 15-25%. When a girl in the developing world receives 7 or more years of education, she marries 4 years later and has 2.2 fewer children. This project will help us to educate 50 more girls who would otherwise be selling on the street. Our dream is that all of our students will graduate with the ability to decide what comes next for their lives.
