22 Students in School 2010 - 2011 - Thank you!

By Carrie & Jennifer | Directors

Dear CCEdFund Family,

You may have recently read in the news about the tragedy in Phnom Penh during the Water Festival.  CCEdFund sends our deepest sympathies to the victims.  We are thankful that none of our students were among those injured during the tragedy.  Fortunately, CCEdFund students who live in Phnom Penh live at ANDC where they were required to return by 5pm that day when they were all accounted for by the Director.

CCEdFund's Students Update

As you probably know, CCEdFund is providing scholarships for 22 students to attend school this year!  This unprecedented growth in the provision of scholarships (from 6 scholarships last year) is due entirely to your support a year ago during the Challenge and subsequent fundraising.  We will reach out to you in the near future regarding end of year giving so that we can continue to support these students as well as even more in the upcoming year.  You are positively changing students’ lives in Cambodia by providing access to education.  You also helped us raise an additional scholarship during the Give More, Get More campaign!  We are constantly humbled by your generosity.

In a recent letter from 2 of CCEdFund’s new scholarship recipients, Channa and Tony, who are studying at Beltei as fifth graders, we learned that they excelling in their classes.  They write that they are studying diligently and that they are eager to receive teacher evaluations at the end of this quarter.  Earlier in this year, Chin, another student in fifth grade in Phnom Penh, wrote that she is third in her class after the first quarter!

In Siem Reap, our students are excelling in their music lessons.  CCEdFund made the decision to explore music education with four students to promote critical thinking development.  A music teacher is providing weekly guitar lessons to Kosal, and he is showing success in other subjects since beginning his lessons.  Then, CCEdFund reached out to a piano teacher who is now teaching music to three other CCEdFund students at ISSR who are similarly benefitting from the experiences.  Through music, our students are learning to master substantive subject areas and developing self confidence.

Thank you very much for you continued generous support for CCEdFund’s amazing students, especially during this difficult economic climate.  We will be in touch in the next months to update you on the students’ mid-year progress reports.  Everyone at CCEdFund wishes you the happiest of holiday seasons!

 Warmly,

Carrie & Jennifer
