Project Personnel

Rye Barcott - President

Rye Barcott was graduated in May 2001 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Peace, War, and Defense, and International Studies. Rye speaks Swahili and Shen'g, the language of Nairobi ghetto youth, and is currently working on a book titled Kibera Blood: Violence and Perseverance in East Africa's Largest Slum. Rye is currently on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Salim Mohamed - Program Manager

Abandoned on the streets of Nairobi as a baby, Salim overcame tremendous odds to excel in school and sports. At age 16, Salim was chosen to lead MYSA, a youth sports association in Mathare with over 2,000 members. The British Council twice employed Salim as a consultant to launch youth sports associations in Ghana. Salim, 26, is pursuing a B.A. in Anthropology at the University of Nairobi.
