Summary
Project will empower 50 caregivers & provide adequate care for 450 orphans and vulnerable children, by increasing the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality, gender-sensitive care and support (e.g. clothing, food, water, hygiene, shelter, bedding, emotional support, education ,health care ,a safe environment ,recreation) and life skills for 450 orphans in Rivers State, Nigeria.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
As HIV/AIDS continues to ravage Rukpokwu & Andoni Communities , it leaves behind an increasing number of orphans and vulnerable children , the burden of care falls to older siblings, grandparents and other extended family members, many of whom do not have the economic means to meet the basic needs of these children; HIV/AIDS is weakening the demand for education. Orphaned children, who were in school prior to the death of one or both parents, are dropping out at alarming rates.
How will this project solve this problem?
Project will create income generation activities for 50 care givers and improve on the level of care and support for at least 450 Orphans by providing quality, gender-sensitive care and support (e.g. clothing, food, water, hygiene, shelter, bedding, emotional support, education ,health care ,a safe environment ,recreation
Potential Long Term Impact
50 CARE GIVERS will be empowered in 12 months, 450 OVC provided with basic needs - clothing, food, water, hygiene, shelter, bedding, emotional support, education ,health care ,a safe environment and recreation50 care givers trained as Peer Educators , 2JETS CLU3/ OVC INNOVATION CLUBS FORMED .
