Many children in Nicaragua have died due to malnutrition, unsanitary conditions, and lack of medical supplies to treat them in the infantile hospital "Manuel de Jesus Rivera" (La Mascota). This project will help equip and condition up to 2 hospital rooms in the area of Oncology (cancer) with new hospital beds and mattresses, manometers, nebulizers, wheel chairs, and other medical equipment, in order to better treat the patients.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Presently, the infantile hospital in Nicaragua is passing through a dire crisis and cannot treat its most critic patients. Many of the children in the Oncology (cancer) Center are dying due to the lack of basic supplies and medicine which they so desperately need, for the hospital has no funds in which to work with. This project will help the center equip up to 2 rooms with these needed supplies and medicine in order to save the lives of these many children.
How will this project solve this problem?
Manos De Amor will provide new hospital beds and mattresses (the ones the center has are in very poor conditions), equipment for IVs (the center does not have enough for everyone), oxygen and asthmatic equipment, and medicine. The children will be in a more comfortable environment with their needs being easily met on a day-to-day basis.
Potential Long Term Impact
The project will help each child with cancer to receive his necessary treatment, allowing each one of them to have a hope for the future. They will have facilities that will be ONLY for their specific condition(s) as well as have the commodities that will better their stay. The hospital will be able to progress and focus on those children with the most need, since the supplies will be provided for, and will have the opportunity to save many children's lives as time goes on.
