DARE Recovery Centres Damaged by Floods in Thailand

To the rescue
To the rescue

The Thai floods of 2011 started in the north of Thailand, where DARE Network works in 5 Burmese Refugee camps on the Thai/Burma Border.  During this rainy season our DARE Centre buildings were badly damaged. We have already rebuilt 1 Centre but need your help with 4 more. DARE (Drug and Alcohol Recovery and Education) Network provides highly successful community-based prevention education and non-medical culturally appropriate addiction treatment to the communities of 150,000 Burmese Refugees.

As you begin to celebrate this season of peace and love, we at DARE hope that you will be able to contribute to the rebuilding of our DARE Centres.  The flooding and severe weather has made our Recovery Centres dangerous to inhabit. Regardless, we continue in our work.   However, a safer and more secure environment ensures a better chance of recovery for the affected refugees and the health of the brave local refugee DARE staff that help them.

This season, GlobalGiving provides an opportunity to give a gift in honour of someone else through GlobalGiving's Tribute Cards. You may want to donate in the name of a friend, family member or another significant person and let them know about your gift using the Tribute Cards you can send online at the project site on GlobalGiving.

Your past support of our work has made great changes for DARE's programs for youth.  We hope you will take the time to consider our new project.  Also, by sharing the project with your friends, families and colleagues on social network sites, through email and just by plain old-fashioned face to face conversation, you will help raise awareness and educate others about the situation here on the Thai/Burma border.

In this season, the refugees truly miss their homeland and hope for peace so they can return to it in safety and dignity.  All of us here at DARE, wish all of you who have made a difference, a peaceful and safe holiday season.

Hanging on for dear life.
Hanging on for dear life.
Everyone pitches in.
Everyone pitches in.
