Build a Playground for Sick Children in Kenya

Hospitalization is a stressful experience to all and more to children. Child Life Programs help children navigate hospitalization with minimal stress and anxiety. Play helps children respond better to treatment and so children heal faster and are discharged home sooner. Sally Test Paediatric Centre provides therapeutic play activities to sick children in a resource poor public hospital in Kenya. We serve approximate 300 children in a day both inpatient and outpatient

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

The number of hospitalized children keeps rising each year. With increase in number of children with chronic diseases like cancer and diabetes, this number will even rise higher.

How will this project solve this problem?

Child Life Programs programs ensure children undergo hospitalization with minimal stress that comes with hospitalization. By psychological preparation and provision of therapeutic play activities, children cope better to hospitalization and respond to treatment better. This project will ensure many children at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital get access to outdoor play opportunities at the new children's hospital wing.

Potential Long Term Impact

We will help over 100000 children to undergo hospitalization under child-friendly settings. We will also help children attain their developmental milestones.
