Every day numerous homeless cats and kittens are injured in and around Chennai. If uncared for, these unfortunate animals often face starvation and, later, succumb to diseases and death. Our present cattery urgently needs to be renovated and expanded to take in more animals and to make their lives safe and comfortable. At present, we have 75 adult cats in the cattery and everyday new ones are being taken in. On an average, we have about 100 kittens that are rescued from the streets.
Increasing cats and kittens get injured or abandoned. Many of these animals are blind or amputees. Cats are considered a nuisance and are frequently abandoned or abused. Cats have also been rescued from public places like hospitals, airports, schools that follow a strict no-animal policy. There is a great need for a cat-friendly shelter where these cats can be housed safely and comfortably. This project aims to build such a shelter.
The proposed renovation and expansion of the cattery will provide a home for these injured and/or abandoned animals where food, care and medical assistance will be provided. These animals would be able to live a life with dignity.
The proposed cattery will reduce the potential harm that these injured and/or abandoned cats and kittens face on the streets. Animal abuse will be reduced. The animals will also lead a life that is safe and secure.
