What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest supports vulnerable children – affectionately referred to as Little Brothers and Sisters - ages 6-18 by matching them with caring adult volunteer mentors. Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest serves Multnomah, Washington, Clark, Clackamas, Skamania, Cowlitz, and Wahkiakum counties.
How will this project solve this problem?
Children matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister for 18 months are less likely to begin using illegal drugs, skip school or participate in violence. A caring adult in the life of a vulnerable child opens a world of opportunities.
Potential Long Term Impact
A study by Harris Interactive found adults mentored as children through Big Brothers Big Sisters are more likely than peers to have: a four-year college degree, an income of $75,000+, and strong relationships with their spouses, children and friends.
Project Message
Bowl For Kids Sake is our largest fundraiser, helping us serve more children. It costs about $1,000 to professionally support a match.
