The mission of Experience Corps is to harness the talents and life experiences of the 78 million Baby Boomers moving through the American population and focus those energies to positively impact critical social needs such as literacy and the deepening achievement gap.
Boomers: A Key to Achievement for Low-performing Students For the past 15 years, Experience Corps has leveraged the capacity of adults 55+ to improve the literacy skills of elementary school students in low income communities. Created in 1995, Experience Corps now hosts 2,000 tutors in 23 cities, helping more than 20,000 low-income elementary school students learn to read.
