Thanks to you dear Friends of Earth from India, USA and Worldover for supporting Project # 6265
“Bio-diverse Agri Trainings to 1500 Youth every year”
As of July, 2014 we have completed 6668 Youth through Project # 6265 started from October 2010. True, there is coverage. Still, discovery of innovations for Biodiversity Agriculture is urgently needed. Hence, an evaluation meeting with Students of Agriculture College was made on June 9, 2014.(photo)
It was great encouragement to receive Ms. Neeharika (Neha) Tummala – the representative from Global Giving on July 10, 2014. She visited the training facility and saw compost models and bio pest repellents. She interacted with trained Youth. She also saw model farm of VOICE Trust (photo)
22 interested Youth of Maniyankurichi Village, Mannachanallur Block, Trichy District came for special training on July 20, 2014 in Country Corn Field. Nutrient management techniques were explained to them. Practical hints for Water Conservation and for maintaining Pest-Predator balance were shared by VOICE Team.
For special consideration by Global Giving and Friends of Earth in India, USA and Worldover
Besides training for 6668 Youth during 2010 to 2014 period being major component of this project, need for smaller and effective follow-up activities are proposed by Youth and others associated. Hence, VOICE Trust is proposing to modify the name of the Project and take follow-up actions.
Proposals for consideration by Global Giving and Friends of Earth in India, USA and Worldover
1. Start-up activities for seed bank to preserve indigenous varieties which withstand local conditions.
2. Preparation of Organic Manures by 4 Youth per village for supply to Nature Centric Farms.
3. Preparation of Bio Pest Repellents by 6 Youth per village to support Organic Farms in Trichy District.
VOICE Trust requests Friends of Earth from India, USA and Worldover to endorse the above proposals
Progress Report for Project # 6265 (January – March 2014)
Biodiverse Agri Trainings for Youth
In the 1980s, Workers in Agriculture were around 70%
In the 2010s, they are only 49% (Nearly one third has left Agriculture)
This dangerous down fall has to be stopped by involving more Youth in Agriculture
Repeated arguments is “ If no workers, switch over its machines.
But, Biodiverse Agriculture which provides Nutrition, Food, requires human labour.
That is why, VOICE Trust is continuing activities under Project # 6265.
1) January 1, 2014: VOICE Team joined the Funeral Services of Mr.G.Nammalvar, the Founder of Organic Farming in Tamilnadu. He died on 30th December 2013. He was buried at Vanagam Farm in Karur District on 01.01.2014.
2) February 2, 2014: Youth from TOSS (Team Of Social Service) visited the Human Resource Development Training Centre of VOICE Trust in Siruganur Village and took Trainings in Organic Manures / Pest Controls.

For VOICE Trust
Managing Trustee / VOICE Trust Project Director / VOICE Trust
Serious discussions on the Continuity of Project# 6265(Biodiverse Agri Trainings to Youth) continued because of lach of funding supports from April 2013 onwards. For, inspite of repeated appeals to Friends of Earth who contributed for the start of the project in September 2010 Open Challenge, help did not come.
Still, following efforts continued during October - December 2013:
1. Booking orders for Organic Manures and Bio-Pest Repellents
2. Increasing Forest Cover in Agricultural Fields for Biodiversity Conservation.
3. Intercropping in Agricultural Fields for better Pest - Predator balance.
Happy to share that 60 kilograms of Vermi Compost(Organic Manure) and 128 litres of Panchakavya(Pest Repellent cum Growth Promotor) have been sold during January 2014. School going Youth are also coming forward to learn about Bio Inputs. Hence, model units are under preparation at the Human Resource Development Training Centre of VOICE Trust in Siruganur village and they will be managed by 20 Young School going Children.
The news that Gururaja K.S and Edwin Vijay Raymond have extended supports during December 2013 and January 2014 has encouraged us to continue Project #6265 activities. They have also assured us to invite their friends to extend supports. A special appeal is forwrded to John Benedict to continue supports like he did in 2011. Also, personal letters are being forwarded to all supporters who contributed for this project in September 2010.
Decide to kindly send in minimum $ 50 for this project for continuing this important Ecological Agriculture activities for making available poison free food, for strengthening accesibility of nutirtive food for all living beings and for food security as well as food sovereignty through traditional food vareities for good health and long life.
July-September 2013 Progress Report for Project # 6265
“Biodiverse Agri Training in 1500 Youth every Year ’’
(Implemented by VOICE Trust, Trichy, State of Tamil Nadu, India
in collaboration with Global Giving, Washington D.C., USA.
through donation from Friends of Earth in India, USA, Europe.)
Background for Project # 6265
World operates under birth – death cycle. While children depend on family for food, clothing, education. Elders manage to survive through help from relatives, pension schemes, insurance coverage. Period of youth is full of energy and contributions to family and society are achieved through economic activities.
While there is a boom for youth in Information Technology, Engineering, Medicals, Tourism and Clerical Jobs, youth involvement in agriculture is coming down drastically. This is a dangerous situation, because, agriculture is needed for all whether young or old, rich or poor, employed or unemployed. For agriculture produces food, protects environment and empowers life in many aspects.
VOICE Trust decided to give trainings in agriculture for youth and appealed for help in September 2010 Open Challenge promoted by Global Giving. Basic supports came from 69 Donors and Biodiverse Agri Trainings are started from October 2010.
Activities So far
200 Youth by November 2010, 665 youth by February 2011, 93 Youth in March 2011, 647 Youth in August 2011, 742 Youth from March 2012, Follow-up Encounters with 750 Youth during April-Setembers 2012 (Case Study of Ms Mekala and Ms. Bhuvaneswari, with 750 Youth during October – December 2012, with 10 Youth during January-March 2013 and Campaign to Stop Sale of Farm Fields and to start Bio-Farming during April – June 2013.
True, coverage of over 1500 Youth every year is well maintained from October 2010 to September 2013. (totally 5152 Youth covered in 3 years), But, more than coverage, VOICE Trust is concentrating upon Confidence of Youth to consider agriculture as a viable activity not only for economic gains but also for environmental protection and other integrated empowerments for qualitative life. First of all attractive elements in agriculture are exposed to youth. Secondly, supports from others in family as well as in society are organized for sustainability through agricultural activities.
Special Activities during July – September 2013.
i) 9 women in their Final year of Agricultural Graduate Degree Course from Roever Agri College, Perambalur, stayed in VOICE Trust from 1 to 14 September 2013. (Photos attached) and learnt about nature centric agriculture. They have assured to spread to various farmers in their villages
ii) People in 350 villages of Trichy District are exposed to Agroforestry in Farm Fields. Out of 3,50,000 Tree Seedlings to be planted in agri lands. So far 1,26,000 tree seedlings have been planted with help of 700 Youth exposed to Bio-diverse Agri Trainings. Rest will be done after rains in October-November.

Your help of £50 and above is enough to continue Project # 6265
As the first Prime Minister of India spoke at the Victory speech of Independence in 1947 that “Everything else can wait but not agriculture”, all of us have to support agriculture. Collaboration under Project # 6265 is a fine opportunity to encourage Youth to involve in Bio-diverse Agriculture for poison-free food production, pollution-free environment and economic sustainability. Hence VOICE Trust appeals to you for your support and solidarity.
Your immediate help is very much needed. Hence, please donate now.
With Best Wishes,
(Mrs. A. Jecintha)
Managing Trustee, VOICE Trust.
Agriculture is still in crisis, because, farmers are attracted to sell agri lands. Neighboring lands of VOICE Trust’s Managing Trustee are already made into housing plots.
Viability of agriculture as successful economic activity is doubted by many farmers, because, the cost of production has increased but return on investment is decreasing year after year.
Biodiverse Agriculture helps the farmers not only to get higher incomes but also improves soil fertility and enhances nature centric pest control systems.
Special Activities during April –June 2013:
“ STOP SALE OF FARM LANDS; START BIO - FARMING; SAVE LANDS FOR POISON FREE FOOD”
v Campaigns to protect agriculture were continued during April – June 2013 with above focus.
v Multiple cropping and Mixed Cropping Systems were explained to farming groups. (See photos)
v Hand Book on Bio- Farming discussed in a meeting with Farmers Reps on June 22 .(See photos)
