The inception for Bicycles for Humanity Georgia began in May of 2009 when Mary Fortson Harwell traveled to Namibia for three months to volunteer with the NGO, the Bicycling Empowerment Network Namibia (BEN Namibia). Throughout the process of working with this organization, Mary became convinced of the profound impact that a bicycle can have in the life of a person living in poverty.
