Between the Lines supports family unity and bonding during times of separation due to either incarceration or military deployment through teaching parents how to read to their children and providing the children a CD or DVD of their parent reading to them. Work is done with local prisons and the National Guard.
Parents who cannot be physically present with their children - either due to incarceration or military deployments - have few opportunities to form and/or maintain parent-child bonds.
Through the gift of a new book and a recorded CD and DVD, the necessary parent-child bonds can be formed as the children listen to their incarcerated or deployed parent reading a book to them.
This project will allow 250 incarcerated and deployed parents to record a book reading for their children during their time of separation, which will build and nurture necessary parent-child relationships.
This project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
