Teacher Training by Tech for Bangladesh
The first session of the JAAGO teacher-training program has been conducted back in April 5th – 9th. Teach for Bangladesh was the facilitator for this training program which is a nationwide movement of exceptional university graduates and young professionals who are committed to expanding educational opportunity for all children in Bangladesh, starting with a two-year professional fellowship teaching in high-need communities. The Teach for Bangladesh Fellowship is a highly selective, challenging and rewarding leadership development program which prepares participants to become lifelong advocates for equity from both inside and outside the education system. Teach for Bangladesh teachers discussed at length, lesson plans and teaching techniques during this interactive session.
Training for New Teacher
When it comes to teaching, reading a book is not enough. Even hearing teachers talk about teaching methods is not enough. New teachers need practice teaching combined with effective mentoring in order to help them understand what is required from them in their new position. This happens through student teaching in the classroom setting. However, it is imperative that student teachers are placed in appropriate classes that meet their interests. Keeping these on the mind 19-20th May and 26-27th May EDP team has arranged two training sessions on Motivation, Classroom management, and Lesson Plan. EDP team supervised the teachers and provided feedback each day to help student-teachers learning. This training will give, the better understanding of teaching learning process, class management, and planning curriculum for the future.
Training for the Project Officer
We have now 13 schools all over the Bangladesh. Our branch head is the project officer, so all the administrative and educational activities are supervised by the project officers. So it is very important for the project officers have a proper knowledge in working process. EDP team has arranged a six day-long training for the project officers on School Accounts, Admission Procedure, Updates, Dropout, Day to day operation of Project Officers. JDs of all staffs, Professionalism, IT, Dealing with Branch Staffs. Motivation and Positive Attitude. Email & Phone etiquette, HR policy, Rules & Regulation, and Handling Local Community.
This training will make the project officers more efficient and gave a better knowledge about the working procedure of JAAGO Foundation.
Training on Digital Conduction of Classes by JAAGO Trainer:
Ms. Shaila Ahmed, freelancer expert in Education has conducted an one hour session on how to make digital question papers online and she has given hands on training and shared wonderful tips and ideas for the teachers so that, they can implement in their assessment process.
Hopefully teachers have absorbed the methods effectively.

Induction for New Teachers:
Mr. Imran Khurshid has conducted induction training for teachers where contents like learning needs, lesson plans, class activities, introducing our schools, child psychology, teaching techniques, feedback, material generation, etc. has been facilitated to them. There was a whole package of the knowledge teachers must gather before getting into class.

External Training by Educationists of IER on Training of Trainers (TOT):
A whole-day long workshop entitled as “TOT” was held to introduce JAAGO Foundation School teachers on advanced teaching methodology and how to become an effective trainer. The objective of the workshop was to orientate and equip the teachers about Children’s psychology and classroom activities. The areas generally covered by the workshop are:
- Understanding students' psychology(relevant theories) and counseling ( its importance and process)
- Teaching methods and techniques
- Use of teaching aids (Preprimary & Primary)
- Learner assessment and test development (Bloom's Taxonomy), and
- Teaching methods and techniques (Preprimary & Primary)
Two prominent education experts – Associate Professor Md. Abdus Salam, from Institute of Education & Research (IER) from University of Dhaka were invited to conduct the workshop for Online Teachers. After such an extensive training the teachers are more confident about all the teachingmethodologies and child psychology that they can apply for bringing about development in the Online teaching process.

Training of New Teacher
JAAGO foundation arranges training program for its new teachers to get them familiar with the rules and regulation of our schools. This is an initiative where the new teachers get acquainted with JAAGO foundation’s cultures and the motive of JAAGO so that the new teachers could better relate themselves with our causes and thus make their best effort in achieving those causes. As a part of that, they are also taken through various cases and challenges that JAAGO faces while dealing with the children of the underprivileged community. This type of training sessions also help new and less experienced teachers to build up the knowledge and confidence required to handle our students efficiently.
Training on Classroom Management and Teaching Methodology:
The training consists of familiarizing the teachers about the overall responsibility that are expected from them and the types of activity they are required to do. For instance they are briefed on how to handle the students in large classrooms like that of JAAGO's. They learnt about the resources and time management including designing interactive lesson plans for the children since the teachers will be responsible for designing the lesson plan in such a way that that brings better learning capacity for the student’s part.
Training was conducted for the Online Teachers of ‘Online Schooling Program (OSP)’ of JAAGO Foundation on the 'Theory of Multiple Intelligence'. This was aimed to help them learn about the different methods that a teacher can use (according to the theory) in order to teach the learners in his/her classroom in more effective ways. There were about 8 OSP teachers who role played as learners in the session to give a demo.
The output was good as the teachers reported later that the learners' engagement and retention’ enhanced as a result of application of this theory in the classroom.
The beneficiaries, as they do not have much experience, needed to be trained on how to handle the children coming from disadvantaged background. The children, most of the time is not aware of the rules and means of respect that they should pay to the elderly, in this case the teachers. As a result it becomes quite challenging for the teachers to handle the students properly. So if they could be engaged and ensured that they remained on tasks throughout the classes then the entire classes would be much productive.In order to achieve this some training sessions were arranged for the teachers of the different branches of JAAGO Foundation which were facilitated to equip the teachers with all the different techniques, tools and knowledge regarding teaching our children. In order to do this we have facilitated various training sessions. A glimpse of them is given below:
1. Training on Professional Development of Teachers provided by SPEED (Services for Professional Education and Enterprise Development)
SPEED is an adult education and training center based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Since starting operations in 2005, we have developed a reputation for offering excellent training programs of an international-standard for working professionals. The teachers of many different branches were imparted a training for eight days. The topics contained the following:

AccomplishmentsAfter conducting the training sessions we have found that the teachers have become more motivated in conducting the classes as they now know how to engage the students in the classes. This is because most of the teachers were new in the field of teaching and they were interested to teach in order to help in the kid’s development and to ensure a bright future. So as they got the opportunity to learn about the methods of motivating the children, managing large classrooms, motivating learners coming from a disadvantaged background and engaging them in the classroom, managing discipline in the classrooms consisting of kids who are prone to make disruptions in the classes, assessing the learners throughout the sessions, and so on.
2. Introductory Teachers Development Workshop by JAAGO Trainer
This was conducted in order to ensure that our teachers are well able to get used to the minimal resources that we deal with in order to impart education to our children and how to teach in environments which are not suitable enough for the kids’ education as they are in the middle of slums and less hygienic areas.AccomplishmentsAfter the training was conducted it was observed that the teachers developed their attitude towards teaching the kids. They were feeling much better about teaching in general as they could overcome many of the challenges such as lack of proper learning environment, limitation of resources, and so on. They could now apply better time management skills within the short span of time.
3. Training on Digital Conduction of Classes by JAAGO Trainer
As Online teaching method is something new and it is taking place the first time in Bangladesh it is so important that the teachers who are conducting the class using this method knows all the procedures and techniques to make this teaching method successful.
Accomplishments:The teachers were trained on how to conduct the classes digitally. After getting this training the teachers were now more capable of utilizing the technology for teaching. Such development helped in the proper application of the software Webex that helped JAAGO to implement the Online Schooling Program. After this took place the learners were more engaged in the learning process.
