Dear supporters, Thank you for your support to help to fund Bethel’s Lighthouse Project through Global Giving. After months of preparations, six of Bethel’s children moved to their new home this morning.
The goal of ‘The Lighthouse Project’ is to provide a place for blind, multi-disabled orphans in China. Bethel’s children who have moved into this house are mostly autistic or have cerebral palsy. Each child is an important and valuable part of Bethel’s family.
In the past few months, a lot of hard work has been done to prepare for this moment. The building has been chosen, rented, and renovated. Adaptations for visually impaired children have been made so that they will be able to move around and assess their surroundings. Staff have been hired and trained, and teachers have been planning lessons and therapy sessions.
As well as this, the children have visited their home 3 times before to prepare them for moving day. They know where their new bedrooms and classrooms will be. Our foster care manager who has been with Bethel for almost ten years has gone with them to help with their transition. Although their family and friends in our other foster homes will miss them, we are excited for them to have their own safe and secure environment where they will focus on receiving individually tailored education and therapy. We believe that this will be a home for each child to achieve their full potential with the help of our trained staff and volunteers.
Bethel strives to be a leader in the Chinese foster care community, particularly amongst vulnerable orphans with a visual impairment. In phase two of our projects, we hope to invite and take in more children who have a visual impairment as well as another disability. We have responded to the needs of these children, and we hope to be an example of quality foster care.
We want to thank you, our supporters through Global Giving for responding to a need, and partnering with us to provide a solution. We will continue to send project updates as our children settle into their new home. Thank you!
