BEFORE, a parternship of AfP and swisspeace, will provide a safe space for all leaders to meet and create a long-term plan for national stability after 5 political assassinations earlier this year.
Since independence Guinea-Bissau has been plagued by instability. Recent elections were peaceful and fair, but they replaced a president assassinated by his own soldiers. Today there is peace, but it is fragile. A 3-day summit with local leaders is needed to address challenges and develop a national action plan. BEFORE, a parternship project of AfP and swisspeace, will help women, minorities, youth, religious leaders and government officials collectively foster a stable national foundation.
• Request approval and attendance of President, Prime Minister, National Assembly, Army Chief, and religious, women & youth leaders • Examine the obstacles to stability • Develop a national action plan • Launch radio campaign on outcomes
A Peace Summit will build stronger local partnerships among leaders, enable these leaders to have a safe space to develop a 2 to 4 year plan for local initiatives for stability, and provide a unified vision of how to address the country’s challenges.
