Summary
Beekeeping and selling honey can be a sustainable livelihood for struggling families in Haiti. Help 35 families out of poverty with the gift of a beehive.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Beekeeping is an important livelihood in Haiti. Honey is a natural sweetener that can also be used for treating illness. Cross pollination by bees makes honeybees an essential part of a healthy agricultural economy. After losing their hives in a hurricane, a beekeeping association in Southern Haiti wants help re-building their beekeeping activities.
How will this project solve this problem?
If we provide 60 beehives, supplies and training for the 35 members of the beekeeping association in southern Haiti, they will be able to lift themselves out of poverty and once again provide a sustainable income for their families.
Potential Long Term Impact
With the extra income provided by the sale of honey at the local market, children will have a chance for a better life. More importantly, 35 families will become self-sufficient.
Project Message
